Lawra Traditional Area Prepares for the 46th Kobine Festival
The Lawra Traditional Area is gearing up for the 46th edition of the Kobine Festival, a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the people. The festival, scheduled for October 7-10, 2024, is an annual event that showcases the traditions and customs of the area, while also serving as a platform for family reunion, development, and friendship.
The 2024 Kobine Festival is themed "Recognising the Impact of NGOs and Development Partners in the Development of the Lawra Traditional Area." The theme aims to acknowledge the contributions of Non-governmental Organisations and development partners to the development of the area and to strengthen the relationship between the traditional area and these partners.
The festival will feature a range of activities, including a health walk, quiz competition for junior high schools in Lawra, finals of the MTN football gala, farmers' forum, youth forum and 'remembrance night', grand durbar of chiefs, street jams, and a Culture and Heritage Day to exhibit the culture and heritage of the traditional area.
The festival is expected to attract a number of high-profile guests, including Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, ministers of state, Council of State Members, Upper West Regional House Chiefs, Members of Parliament, and a delegation from Burkina Faso.
The Kobine Festival is a significant event that promotes unity, friendship, and development in the Lawra Traditional Area. It serves as a period of sacrifice and thanksgiving to the gods and ancestors for the favours and bounty harvest received during the farming season.
The Secretary to the Kobine Festival Planning Committee, Naa Edwin Irekakpier, expressed gratitude to Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) Ghana for their continuous support as headline sponsors of the festival over the years.
