Lola Scott Shares Addictive New Single 'Caffeine'
Sydney singer-songwriter Lola Scott has just released her addictive new single, titled “Caffeine”. The song, which delves into the complexities of a breaking relationship, was written in an old church in rural Australia during a particularly challenging period for Scott.
“This song felt like a premonition of a breakup,” Scott explains. “I was battling insomnia after moving out alone, and I relied heavily on caffeine, which only worsened my sleepless nights. My restless mind and anxious attachment strained my relationship.”
Lyrics like “maybe I just need another hobby / So I don’t remember the night you forgot me” carry deep significance for Scott, capturing her efforts to distract herself from a fading romance. She reveals that the song reflects her struggle with insomnia and the loneliness she felt while trying to assert her independence.
“I struggled to sleep alone, leading to more sleepless nights and clumsiness. All I wanted was someone to reassure me, to tell me they’ve ‘got me now.’ I felt incredibly alone while stubbornly trying to assert my independence,” she adds.
“Caffeine” sees Scott experimenting with different styles, moving away from her usual electro-pop sound and venturing into acoustic singer-songwriter territory. This shift allows the emotional weight of her lyrics to take center stage.
Scott will be launching her new single with a stripped-back living room show in Sydney next week. This intimate setting promises to highlight the raw emotion and personal connection she brings to her music.
The music video for “Caffeine” features a mix of spur-of-the-moment ideas and previously shot footage of Tasmanian landscapes by her collaborator Rob. “I feel very lucky to have worked with him on this video. He’s got great vision and is a great friend!” Scott shares.
