More than 90 species of rare butterflies live in Moscow
Butterflies belong to the order Lepidoptera, which is divided into two large groups - diurnal and nocturnal.
Vera Strukova, Deputy Head of the Mospriroda GPBU, said that in the natural expanses of the metropolitan metropolis, the following were noticed: blueberry argus, small plume and unpaired chervonets (3rd rarity category), large forest mother-of-pearl, swallowtail and willow lily (2nd rarity category), as well as a rare purple chervonets (1 category of rarity).

In addition, in Moscow parks you can see the moths, hawthorns, and some other species of hawks. All these butterflies are included in the Surveillance List of the Red Book of Moscow as species that need constant monitoring and observation.

The annual census conducted by Mospriroda specialists shows the stability of the species composition and abundance of wildlife, including butterflies, living in specially protected natural areas of Moscow.
According to these observations, the most diverse species composition was observed in the Bitsevsky forest, Izmailovo, Tsaritsyn, Serebryany Bor, Kuzminki-Lyublino, as well as in the Setun River Valley. Read More…
