New Books Promote Summer Reading Among Children
Vietnamese publishing houses have launched a variety of new book series to encourage children to read during the summer holidays. These initiatives aim to foster a love for reading among young readers by offering engaging and educational content.
HCM City Children’s Book Fair
At the recently concluded HCM City Children’s Book Fair, these collaborators introduced a poetry book for children titled Sài Gòn Của Em (My Beloved Sài Gòn).
The book features 100 poems by 50 favorite authors, including Nguyễn Khoa Đăng, Nguyễn Nhật Ánh, and Đào Phong Lan.
The collection includes well-loved poems such as Tre Việt Nam (Vietnamese Bamboo) by Nguyễn Duy, Viếng Lăng Bác (Visiting Uncle Hồ Mausoleum) by Viễn Phương, and Quê Hương – Bài Học Đầu Cho Con (Homeland – Your First Lesson) by Đỗ Trung Quân.
The book was compiled by Bùi Thanh Truyền, chairman of the Theory and Criticism Council of the city Writers’ Association. He emphasized that the poems help children appreciate their country’s culture and history, while connecting different generations through shared memories.
Kim Đồng Publishing House’s New Collection
Nine New Books: The Kim Đồng Publishing House is set to release a collection of nine books aimed at children and teenagers.
Short Stories: The collection includes seven short stories, such as Hải Âu Đi Tìm Cha (Seagull Looks for Father) by Nguyễn Thu Hằng and Cuộc Phiêu Lưu Của Còng Gió Vân Xanh (The Adventure of the Blue Horned Ghost Crab) by Lê Đức Dương.
Poetry Books: Two poetry books are part of the collection, Hạt Bắp Vỗ Tay (Corn Clapping Hands) by Nguyễn Thánh Ngã and Chú Dế Đêm Trăng (The Cricket Under the Moonlight) by Mai Quyên.
These books explore themes such as love for the country, environmental protection, and imaginative adventures. They reflect various topics, including family, the impact of pollution on sea creatures, and the dreamlike escapades of children.
All nine books are considered outstanding literary works for children and are nominated for the first Kim Đồng Literature Awards.
These new publications are part of broader efforts to promote reading among children in Vietnam. By offering a diverse range of topics and engaging stories, these books aim to capture the imagination of young readers and instill a lifelong love for reading.
