Overwhelmed Teachers Transition to Online Platforms Amid Classroom Challenges
A growing number of teachers are leaving traditional classrooms for online platforms, citing unmanageable workloads and student behavior issues. This shift is highlighted by a report from Think Tank Britain, which notes a five-year high in educators abandoning the profession. Many are turning to platforms like MyEdSpace, where they can earn significantly more—up to £100,000 annually—compared to the average UK starting salary of £30,000.
Brook Edgar, a physics teacher from Ireland, and Louis Provis, an English teacher from Birmingham, are among those who have made the switch. Both now work for MyEdSpace, a digital platform offering affordable live-stream lessons and tutoring. Founded two years ago by Sean Hirons and Kharis Yanakidis, MyEdSpace has quickly grown to 6,000 users and millions of views.

Brook shared her struggles with the emotional toll of traditional teaching, including managing student behavior and the stress of OFSTED inspections. She found the lack of work-life balance unsustainable, despite her passion for teaching. Louis, who doubled his salary by moving to online teaching, expressed similar sentiments. He was drawn to MyEdSpace after helping a friend with YouTube content, finding it a perfect fit for his love of teaching.

Parents also benefit from this digital education model, as MyEdSpace offers sessions at £5 per hour, compared to up to £60 per hour for private tutoring. The platform uses live video streams to engage students, offering lessons in subjects like English, biology, chemistry, physics, and maths, with plans to expand.
Teachers are selected for MyEdSpace based on their experience, teaching approach, and ability to engage students online. Co-founders Sean and Kharis emphasize the platform's mission to address gaps in the current education system by providing accessible, high-quality education. They aim to offer a more relatable learning experience for students accustomed to social media and online streaming, ensuring top-tier education is affordable for all.
