Pep Guardiola claims Manchester City will not celebrate wildly if they seal the Premier League title against rivals Manchester United.
City will be crowned champions in the quickest time in Premier League history if they win the derby at the Etihad.
But Guardiola claims they will immediately switch their focus to Tuesday’s Champions League return leg against Liverpool 72 hours later regardless of tomorrow’s result.
“We are going into it to win it,” said the City boss. “But of course we will have one eye on Tuesday.
“Win, lose or draw, our focus will be on next Tuesday.”
Guardiola played down the significance of winning the title against United, claiming they would have six more games if they do not triumph tomorrow.
“Being in this position with seven games to go, we need to win one or two,” he said.
“If we don’t win, we will need to win two games. Liverpool are almost done to go through and our position is similar. We have the chance and we will try.
“It’s a derby and we didn’t prepare to win it against United. We will just focus on what we have to do to win the game.”
Guardiola is expected to make changes for United to keep players fresh for Tuesday and the Catalan is also that they must play Tottenham next weekend.
“We have three massive games - United, Liverpool and Tottenham - with just three days in between the games,” he said.
“We will see the players’ condition. I can’t answer you now because we have a training session at 3pm.
“We’ll speak with the doctors and see what’s the best team. We’ll pick a team to win the game.”
Guardiola claims Sergio Aguero remains a doubt with the knee injury he sustained last month.
“I don’t know right now,” he said. “We have training this afternoon and we’ll see how his condition is.”
