Rainhard Fendrich has released a new single
Five years after his last album "Starkregen," renowned Austropop singer Rainhard Fendrich has returned with a new single titled "Wladimir." This track marks a sharp political critique, directly addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin and taking aim at political norms.
In a recent performance at Germany's largest singer-songwriter festival, "Lieder auf Banz" in Bad Staffelstein, the 69-year-old Fendrich debuted "Wladimir." The song humorously and critically addresses Putin, painting a satirical portrait of the Russian leader.
Set to a classic Russian polka rhythm, Fendrich sings about Putin's rise to power with lyrics like, "Wladi was very lonely, Wladi was very small / and all small children want to be bigger. Wladi wasn't stupid, Wladi was very clever / and whoever is clever gets very far in the KGB."
Fendrich has shared a live recording of the song on his website and on YouTube. The official release of "Wladimir" as a single is set for Friday. Known for his political activism, Fendrich doesn't hold back in mocking Putin's image as an invincible despot, singing, "First naked through the taiga, then full of delusions of grandeur / suddenly the day came when no war began."
The response from fans on YouTube has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising Fendrich for his bold and timely new song.
