Seven Decades of China's Arts and Crafts on Display
On Thursday, the Beijing Gongmei Group unveiled a grand exhibition celebrating 70 years of its contributions to China's arts and crafts culture. This retrospective exhibition, held at the Beijing Arts and Crafts Museum, showcases the company's journey and its profound impact on the field across different eras. The exhibition will run until February 12.
The 70th anniversary exhibition is structured around three main themes:
1. Marching with the Times
This section features a series of art and craft pieces that reflect the distinctive characteristics of various historical periods. It begins with the early days following the founding of the People's Republic of China, a time marked by the need for rebuilding. The display then transitions to the vitality and creativity that emerged during the reform and opening-up period, culminating in the prosperity of the new era.
2. Harnessing the Power of Arts and Crafts
In this segment, the exhibition gathers materials that bear historical significance, including precious craft manuscripts, vivid visual materials, and historical artifacts. These items highlight the rich heritage and evolution of Chinese arts and crafts, showcasing the skills and creativity that have been passed down through generations.
3. Offering a Tribute to the Nation
This section pays homage to the national-level gift design and production tasks undertaken by the Beijing Gongmei Group over the years. It features notable projects, including the magnificent gifts created for the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the APEC China 2014 summit, and the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. These works exemplify the group's commitment to representing Chinese culture on the international stage.
During the exhibition launch ceremony, the book Chinese Craftsmanship Behind National Gifts was released. This publication aims to enhance public appreciation for traditional crafts and the skills associated with intangible cultural heritage. It serves as a testament to the importance of preserving and promoting China's rich artistic traditions.
The 70th anniversary retrospective exhibition by the Beijing Gongmei Group not only celebrates the achievements of the past seven decades but also emphasizes the ongoing relevance of arts and crafts in contemporary society. By showcasing the evolution of craftsmanship and its role in national identity, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with and appreciate the beauty and significance of traditional Chinese arts and crafts.
