Ghanaian writer Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah of Sex Lives of African Women fame recently signed the dotted lines for book #2 with Dialogue Books. Titled We Need to Talk About Sex, the book explores indigenous African knowledge about sex for what it offers the contemporary African woman.
Set to publish in 2025, Sekyiamah’s new book is bound to be a scintillating read! The book consists of both her personal life lessons and anecdotes along with research insights, conversations with sex-positive African feminists, and information from her sexual freedom workshops series.

We Need to Talk About Sex also excavates and reclaims traditional African sexual knowledge and practices in ways that can serve the contemporary African woman. Nana recounts conversations with women who hold responsibilities for organising traditional practices such as the “dipo puberty rites” in Ghana and the Sengas (traditional marriage counsellors) in Uganda.
And each chapter of the book ends with a bulleted list of journal prompts, and exercises that you can do on their own to find your own way towards sexual liberation.
Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah is a Ghanaian writer and blogger. She is the co-founder of the sex-positive feminist blog “Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women” and has published the anthology The Sex Lives of African Women (2021).
