Singer Sao Mai Khanh Ly releases Music Video in tribute to Hanoi
Sao Mai Khanh Ly has released a heartfelt music video paying tribute to Hanoi, where she has spent the last two decades living, working, and shaping her career. The music video features the song Hanoi in the Old Days, composed by Song Ngoc, and re-arranged by Van Chung and Kim Long. Despite Song Ngoc never having visited Hanoi, the song’s melodies and lyrics capture the essence of a tranquil and dreamlike city.
Through this project, Khanh Ly aims to evoke musical nostalgia about the capital. Her soulful and expressive voice brings new life to Hanoi in the Old Days, a song that has been performed by many but feels fresh and modern in her rendition. With a poetic and delicate interpretation, she adds her own personal touch to this ode to Hanoi.
In the music video, Khanh Ly transforms into the image of a graceful and elegant Hanoi woman, donning a traditional ao dai and styled to reflect the charm of Hanoi’s past. Her appearance, coupled with the nostalgic melody, paints an emotional portrait of the city—honoring its heritage with both elegance and refinement.
Having grown up with chamber music and now serving as a vocal lecturer at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, Khanh Ly has embraced a repertoire of lyrical and romantic songs. She expressed that, at this stage of her career, she desires to sing more simply and authentically, aiming to connect more deeply with her audience. In Hanoi in the Old Days, this simplicity shines through, as she shares her love for the city in a soft and sincere manner.
Reflecting on the song, Khanh Ly said, "When I sing this, I feel like I’m guiding listeners through the beautiful, ancient, and romantic scenes of old Hanoi."
