Skiing has its own set of unique dangers. There are tree wells, cliffs, and avalanches. Of these three, avalanches are the most elusive, often striking when the cameras aren't rolling. While it's common to see the aftermath of avalanches in the backcountry or on road shoulders, catching these forces of nature in action is rare. Many skiers go their entire life without seeing a live avalanche.
That's why it's so hard to look away when an active avalanche is caught on film, like the one documented in a TikTok upload from @windellscamp. See the insanity for yourself.
Thankfully, the slope that slid was free of skiers when this avalanche struck. Similarly, it wasn't large enough to catch those enjoying the park jumps and groomers on-piste. Even still, the fear captured in this clip is palpable. At first, everyone stands around and watches before realizing the slide is larger than anticipated.
