Slovakia’s Pohoda Festival Canceled After Tent Collapse Injures 29
Slovakia’s Pohoda Festival faced an unexpected and unfortunate end as organizers were forced to cancel the remaining performances after a tent stage collapse injured 29 attendees.
Incident Details
On Friday night, strong winds and a severe storm led to the collapse of the Aréna Slovenskej sporitel’ne tent, which had festival-goers inside at the time. The collapse resulted in 28 attendees suffering minor injuries, while one individual sustained a more severe injury, specifically a fractured hip.
Cancellation Decision
Following the incident, festival organizers made the difficult decision to cancel the rest of the event to prioritize attendee safety. They cited the inability to inspect all structures within 24 hours as a significant reason for the cancellation.
A statement from Pohoda Festival read: “Based on the available information, inspecting all the structures could not be completed in less than 24 hours, which makes it impossible to continue with the festival programme. The safety of our guests is our priority, and therefore we believe that our decision, made with great regret, will be understood by everyone.”
Impact on Attendees and Performances
Approximately 30,000 people had attended the festival, which took place near Trenčín Airfield, about 59 miles from Bratislava. The festival was originally scheduled to run from July 11-13 and featured a line-up of international artists, including Peggy Gou, James Blake, Skepta, Pendulum, and Royal Blood.
Earlier on Friday, performances by Royal Blood and Morcheeba had already been canceled for safety reasons due to the severe weather.
Despite the cancellation, attendees camping onsite were allowed to stay overnight. Organizers ensured basic supplies of food and drink were available while the venue remained closed.
