Sofia International Film Festival Presents a Record Number of Bulgarian Films
The Sofia International Film Festival is set to showcase an impressive array of Bulgarian cinema during its 29th edition, with a record number of local films featured in the program. Festival director Stefan Kitanov announced at a special press conference that out of approximately 180-200 films included in the lineup—both feature-length and short films—around 60 titles are Bulgarian.
"This is an unprecedented occurrence in the festival's history, which signifies that Bulgarian cinema not only exists but is also prominently represented at an international festival in Bulgaria and beyond," Kitanov stated. He highlighted that nearly 50 premieres of Bulgarian films will take place during the festival.
The Sofia International Film Festival will run from March 13 to 31, presenting the best of world cinema alongside the remarkable contributions of Bulgarian filmmakers. Kitanov emphasized the festival's commitment to showcasing high-quality films and fostering a vibrant cinematic culture in Sofia. This year's edition promises to be a significant celebration of both local and international talent in the film industry.
