Sweden to Provide Record-Breaking $1.2 Billion Military Aid Package to Ukraine
Sweden has announced its largest military aid package to Ukraine to date, valued at approximately $1.2 billion. This significant commitment was revealed by Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson on the social media platform X.
The aid package includes several key components aimed at bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities. Notably, around $90 million will be allocated for the production of long-range missiles and drones for Ukraine. Additionally, a quarter of the total package will consist of weapons that Sweden will transfer from its own military reserves.
Furthermore, approximately $534 million, or 45% of the total aid, will be dedicated to the production of new weapons for Ukraine, with manufacturing taking place in Sweden and several other European countries. An additional $250 million will be set aside for various international funds supporting Ukraine.
According to the Swedish government, this marks the 18th package of military assistance provided to Ukraine since the onset of Russia's invasion. To date, Sweden's total military assistance to Ukraine has reached 61.9 billion Swedish kronor, equivalent to about 5.4 billion euros.
This record-breaking aid package underscores Sweden's ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defense efforts amid the ongoing conflict, reflecting a broader trend of increased military cooperation among European nations in response to security challenges in the region.
