Taiwan alleges a rise in military operations by China close to its borders
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence reported an increase in Chinese military activity near its borders, detailing the presence of multiple aircraft and naval vessels from China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) and People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).
As of 6am local time (UTC+8), the ministry detected 10 Chinese aircraft and 6 naval vessels operating close to Taiwan. Among these, 8 aircraft crossed the median line into Taiwan's southwestern and eastern Air Defence Identification Zones (ADIZ).
In response, Taiwan's Armed Forces, known as the Republic of China Armed Forces (ROC Armed Forces), monitored the situation closely and took necessary responsive measures.
This development signifies a notable escalation in tensions between Taiwan and China, amidst ongoing geopolitical friction in the region. The Taiwan Strait remains a critical area for military maneuvering and strategic posturing, with both sides maintaining their respective territorial claims and national security interests.
Taiwan, officially the Republic of China (ROC), remains a key geopolitical flashpoint in East Asia, with its sovereignty contested by Beijing despite its self-governing status. In July alone, Taiwan detected over 300 Chinese military aircraft and around 100 naval ships operating near its territory. Since September 2020, China has ramped up its use of gray zone tactics, increasing the number of military aircraft and naval vessels operating around Taiwan, further heightening regional tensions.
