Telekom Opens Its 5G Network to All Customers
Magyar Telekom, in its ongoing efforts to modernize its mobile network, has announced that it will expand its outdoor 5G coverage to reach 60 percent of the population starting from June 1. In a statement sent to MTI on Wednesday, the telecommunications company shared this update.
Between June 1 and August 31, Magyar Telekom will automatically grant 5G access to its customers, allowing nearly one million people who already possess compatible devices and mobile internet subscriptions to experience the advantages of 5G technology.
Emphasizing their commitment to an ongoing multi-year network modernization program, Magyar Telekom stated that the initiative encompasses not only active and passive radios but also the complete infrastructure required for their installation and operation.
Zoltán Pereszlényi, Deputy Commercial Director, informed Világgazdaság that customers will not be required to take any action during the summer months. 5G services will be automatically activated in and around Budapest, county centers, and popular tourist destinations such as Lakes Balaton, Velence, and Tisza.
Over the past six years, Magyar Telekom has invested 300 billion forints (804 million euros) in expanding its network infrastructure, as revealed by Lubor Zatko, Deputy Technical Director. He highlighted that 5G coverage has tripled in a year, and with increasing customer demand and the growing number of connected devices, the company will continue to invest and expand. Lubor Zatko explained that they are capable of providing gigabit speeds to 3.5 million households, representing 77 percent of the access points covered by Telekom. This achievement sets an exceptional benchmark in Europe.
