The literary season starts in Rabat
The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM) in Rabat hosted, Thursday evening, the launching ceremony of the 7th edition of the literary season, a constantly renewed cultural festival which honors the Moroccan book, and this in front of an audience composed mainly of national and international authors and publishers as well as personalities from the world of culture and the media.
The perfect opportunity for authors to meet their readers and also to discover the very latest publications. This is also the opinion of the Minister of Justice, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd, for whom the start of the literary season is a cultural event par excellence, enhanced by the presence of the most known and most read, emphasizing that literature, an important element of Moroccan culture, has always benefited from a very special High solicitude of HM King Mohammed VI as evidenced by the High Royal Guidelines for the promotion of cultural activity.
Noting the existence of many challenges posed in the field of publishing which do not favor its real promotion and its real place within society, he indicated, in this regard, that his department plans to publish more than 300 books by Moroccan authors and to build new public libraries, in addition to bookstores in all regions of the Kingdom, with the aim of democratizing access to books and culture, especially for the younger generations.
He also highlighted the importance of the contribution of book professionals through an agreement that will unify their efforts in favor of the promotion of the book, its wide distribution and also the increase in sales, in addition to the media coverage of the Moroccan book and the influence of Moroccan culture in the world, noting on this register that many and prestigious international book fairs show the intention to program Morocco as guest of honor in their events.
Mr. Bensaïd said, in this regard, that Morocco will be strongly present at the African Book Fair, scheduled for mid-March in Paris, as well as in the Brussels and Geneva fairs, which proves, in his eyes, the excellence of Moroccan literary creation.
And to announce the project to create a new literary prize, the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Federation of Cultural and Creative Industries (FICC).
In addition, the Minister made a point of specifying that the relocation to Rabat of the SIEL (Casablanca International Publishing and Book Fair) was dictated by logistical considerations, announcing that the reflection today concerns the creation of an international children's book fair as well as a national book fair in Casablanca, in addition to the project to multiply regional fairs to encompass all regions of the Kingdom.
