Tiago Brunet was in Lisbon last week for the launch of his new book "Specialist in People", but he is already used to visiting Portugal. MAGG caught up with the spiritual influencer who has over 4 million Instagram followers to find out more about his successful career.
The 41-year-old author and theologian, born in Brazil, considers himself an "unlikely person who could have gone wrong in life", instead of having the current success. He sees himself that way because of the difficult situations he went through, namely on an emotional, financial and spiritual level — the three areas he talks about today to his students and followers: "Ever since I was little, I knew I was going to do something special, but it took me a while to find out what it would be", he admits.
It was in 2014, after experiencing a deep financial and personal crisis, that he made the decision to change his life. The company he owned went bankrupt, which led to depression and chronic anxiety: "It was very embarrassing and a lot of emotional pressure, but that's when I decided to do what I do today. I've always been very enterprising and I had faith. God can do anything but your share," he says.
At that time, Tiago remembers that he began to think about the many people who, like him, break down but who are unlucky enough not to have anyone by their side to give them a hand and help to recover. "I had this privilege [of not being alone] and I decided to take my life experience, academic - in Theology, Culture and Communication - and I realized that there was a lack of help for people to know how to deal with other people".
“School does not form us for life, but for a test”
For the author, at school one learns a lot that is not used in life, such as knowing how to manage emotions and finances. In addition, on social media, he noticed that many of the people who seek his help mention problems that are always associated with other people: "I realized that people hurt, but they also heal. That's why learning to deal with them is the best way . You won't be able to escape them and many are unavoidable, we don't choose them, they just appear".
In the book "Specialist in People", the author teaches how to deal with all kinds of people based on the science that he calls "millennial wisdom", that is, on what is in the Bible, considered by itself as the "manual of human instructions".
However, Tiago Brunet makes the reservation that religion and the Bible should not be confused and that he does not defend any religion, just as many of his followers are atheists. “People don't have a problem with spirituality, but with religion. I take the Bible and put it into practice on a daily basis”, he clarifies.
According to the people expert, there is an ideal world that has not yet been reached, but whoever reads the book and confronts himself will find peace. He also considers that it is important that those who read the book immediately put what they have learned into practice. Among them is the ability to forgive, which is not easy in today's world, in his words: "Forgiveness is not validating what the person has done wrong, but freeing ourselves from negative thoughts," he explains.
