A painting by Vlaho Bukovac in the Museum of Vojvodina
This painting was commissioned on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Church-People's Assembly of the Serbs held on the Annunciation, April 2, 1861 in Sremski Karlovci, which was presided over by Patriarch Josif RajaÄić.
Academician Vlaho Bukovac (1855–1922) showed in picture 82 authentic portraits of Parliament participants, members of church clergy, political parties and citizens, among whom was Svetozar Miletić. It was made using the oil on canvas technique, with dimensions of 122 x 192 centimeters.
"It is a work that represents the cultural heritage of Serbia and is of exceptional importance for Vojvodina and our entire country, because it depicts one of the significant events for the Serbian people in the long struggle for freedom and unification," said the President of the Provincial Government, Igor Mirović, after handing over the painting .
According to President Mirović, as a nation we owe thanks to all those who participated in the action to find this picture because it is a true testimony of the events of the Annunciation Council, and on it we see the great men of Serbian Vojvodina who are the bearers of unity, togetherness and the idea that was crowned in November 1918 .year - ideas of joining Vojvodina to the Kingdom of Serbia.
Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin thanked the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and the SBPOK, who found the picture and returned it to the Serbian people.
"The painting has a great artistic value, but much greater than that is its cultural and historical importance and the memory of the Serbs as they were - a brave and historical generation whose work started and continued our struggle for unification," Minister Vulin said. Read More…
