Airtel Africa broadband cable project key for inclusive digitisation-PS
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology Dr Jim Yonazi on Sunday inspected a landing site of a submarine broadband communications cable that will enhance availability of 4G and 5G connectivity in the country.
Dr Yonazi congratulated Airtel for the investment and said when completed the project will help realise government’s inclusive digitisation and economic plans for Tanzanians.
Dr Yonazi who was accompanied by his ministry’s ICT experts said the submarine cable that will be managed in Dar es Salaam is an important investment to improve internet communication in the country.
He said Airtel Africa broadband cable will also lower communication costs. The ultra-modern submarine cable is an important infrastructure that connects the African continent to Europe.
Airtel Tanzania CEO, Dinesh Balsingh told the PS that the cable with speed of 180 terabytes is one of the largest in the world and will make internet connection both cheap and faster.
“This cable will also enhance availability of 4G and 5G communication in the country,” Balsingh said. Read More…
