Ana Piedad Jaramillo, director of the Medellin Book Festival: "We are interested in seducing people so that they become readers"
A new edition of the Book and Culture Festival is about to begin and there are already many questions circulating around its realization. Last year, at the 'return fair', attendees had the opportunity to once again feel the emotion of the meeting up close, after not having been able to attend the event in a year that was interrupted by the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic. 19.
For this occasion, the organizers of the event, in support of the Medellín Mayor's Office, have invested more than $8,000 million and will have more than 400 guests, 32 of them from countries such as Portugal, the Netherlands, France, Israel, Spain and Uruguay. In addition, it will have the presence of prominent national personalities such as the Minister of Culture, Patricia Ariza, who is a poet and playwright; in addition to renowned writers such as Mario Mendoza, William Ospina, Pilar Quintana, Laura Restrepo, Velia Vidal and Reinaldo Spitaletta; the writer and president of the José Saramago Foundation and wife of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Pilar del Río; the Argentine writer and actress, Camila Sosa Villada; the Mexican writer, Paco Ignacio Taibo II; the Brazilian cartoonist, Marcello Quintanilha and the French illustrator, David B., among others.
During the days of the Book and Culture Festival, the District Cinematheque will join in with the exhibition of some films by Colombian directors such as Ana Cristina Monroy with "What do your eyes sound like?" and Germán Arango with “Cantos que inundan el río”, in addition to some samples of short films in agreement with the Ministry of Culture and with Portugal as guest country (two films and a documentary) among which “Embargo”, by director Antonio Ferreira, on September 12, at 6:30 pm The exhibition, during the ten days, will be at 6:00 pm with the support of the District Cinematheque and the EPM Foundation.
