‘Bristite Roder Kona’ Showcases the Artworks of Kazi Abdul Baset
An exhibition titled ‘Bristite Roder Kona’ featuring the remarkable works of the late Kazi Abdul Baset opened at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhanmondi on Friday. Organized by Bengal Art Gallery, this exhibition highlights the artistic journey of the renowned Bangladeshi artist, showcasing his contributions to modern painting from the 1960s to the 1990s.
The event was inaugurated by prominent artist and cartoonist Professor Rafiqun Nabi, who served as the chief guest, with artist Abul Barq Alvi attending as the special guest. The exhibition has garnered attention for providing a fresh perspective on Baset's artistic legacy, which remains significant in the evolution of modern art in Bangladesh.
Kazi Abdul Baset (1935-2002) is celebrated for his versatile approach to painting, skillfully blending local traditions with modern art forms. His early works are characterized by realistic depictions of nature, but as his career progressed, he began to explore abstract styles and human figures, often employing semi-abstract and abstract forms. The 1960s and 1970s marked a pivotal phase in his career, during which abstract expressionism became a defining feature of his art.
Throughout his career, Baset drew inspiration from themes deeply rooted in the heart of Bangladesh, particularly the struggles and resilience of mothers and daughters. One of his most poignant themes is the powerful image of a mother waiting for her son to return from war, encapsulating the emotional landscape of a nation grappling with hardship.
The ‘Bristite Roder Kona’ exhibition aims to revive interest in Baset’s work and introduce his unique pictorial language to the younger generation, fostering a connection to a pivotal era in Bangladeshi art. By showcasing his diverse body of work, the exhibition seeks to inspire new audiences and encourage appreciation for the rich artistic heritage of Bangladesh.
The exhibition is open to the public at Kamrul Hasan Gallery, Bengal Shilpalay, every day from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will run until January 11, 2025. This is a valuable opportunity for art enthusiasts and the general public to engage with the legacy of Kazi Abdul Baset and explore the evolution of modern art in Bangladesh.
