Gerhard Pfister to Step Down as Swiss Centre Party Leader
Gerhard Pfister, the president of the Swiss Centre Party, has announced that he will step down from his leadership position next summer, as stated in a press release issued by the party on Monday.
The process for selecting his successor will take place during the party delegates’ meeting scheduled for June in Biel. In the release, Pfister expressed pride in the transformation the party has undergone during his tenure, stating, “In recent years, we have achieved a remarkable transformation of our party, laying the foundations for a strong Centre Party in the Swiss political landscape. Now is the right time to make way for the new generation.”
Pfister has been at the helm of the Centre Party since April 2016, a period during which the party underwent significant changes, including a rebranding from its former name, the PDC, and a merger with the PBD. His leadership has been marked by efforts to strengthen the party's position within Swiss politics, and his upcoming departure signals a transition towards new leadership and perspectives within the party.
