Healthy Habits To Make Your Relationship Last Longer

If you thought falling for Mr Right and riding off into the sunset to your happy ending was enough to have the perfect relationship, think again. The fact is that all relationships, romantic or otherwise, require effort and a lot of that. In all honesty, there’s no such thing as the perfect relationship, however there are ways to ensure that you have happy and lasting connections. Curious? Here are a few positive habits that will help you maintain your relationship forever.

Spending Quality Time Together
Between long work hours and never-ending zoom meetings, dedicating some time to your partner might seem challenging, but we assure you that it’s crucial you do so. “When relationships get comfortable and responsibilities of your daily life take over, sometimes your one-on-one time can take a backseat. Never stop organising date nights or spending quality time with each other as this is what helps keep the spark alive,” advices Shahzeen Shivdasani, Relationship Expert.

Communicating Your Feelings
Remember the age-old saying that ‘communication is key in any relationship’? Well, it totally is! For any relationship to last, you need to communicate about your feelings to your partner and stop expecting them to understand or assume every time. “When you keep what you are feeling from your partner, unknowingly you are creating a wall between the two of you. If something is bothering you or your needs are not getting met, communicate them with your partner. Do not hold back. How are they to make things better if you don’t give them a chance?” explains Shivdasani. Talk, share, express, understand and reach a solution. It really is that simple!

Appreciating Your SO
When was the last time you thanked your partner for making you your favourite cinnamon apple pie? Or when was the last time you complimented them for something? It’s true that we end up ignoring the little things after a certain period, but that’s exactly something that being together is all about. “When we get comfortable it is normal for us to take care of each other which sometimes can turn into coming off like a nag. Remember to always point out the good in your partner. Everyone ultimately wants two things, to feel understood and to be appreciated,” points out Shivdasani. Compliment your better half, flirt with them and most importantly value them and the things they do for you. Not that difficult now, is it?

Being Realistic
Just because your sister’s husband surprises her with flowers every week doesn’t mean you expect your partner to do the same for you. Every relationship is unique and for it to work, you need to accept your partner the way they are. Yes, sharing your love language with your SO is one thing, but expecting them to love you in the exact same way is far from healthy. Instead, try understanding your partner and start appreciating what you have. Read More...
