MDA Space Secures $1-Billion Contract for Canadarm3's Next Phases
MDA Space Ltd. has been awarded a monumental $1-billion contract by the Canadian Space Agency for the forthcoming stages of the Canadarm3 robotics system.
MDA is tasked with constructing the Canadarm3, which is slated for deployment aboard Gateway—a NASA-led initiative to establish a space station in lunar orbit. Gateway is a pivotal element of NASA's Artemis program, aimed at returning astronauts to the moon.
This contract encompasses funding for the final design phase, as well as the construction, system assembly, integration, and testing of the complete robotics system. Additionally, it includes meticulous planning and personnel training to ensure operational readiness.
The Canadarm3 system will feature a large arm, a smaller dexterous arm, specialized tools designed for maintenance and scientific tasks, and a ground segment for command and control operations. This sophisticated suite of robotics is set to play a crucial role in supporting lunar exploration and advancing human presence in space.
