Opening of the exhibition “The magic of geometry” by Mohamed Amine Melehi
The opening of the exhibition "The magic of geometry" by the artist, ceramist and writer Mohamed Amine Melehi took place on Friday evening at the Mohammed VI foundation for the promotion of social works of education-training, in Rabat .
Throughout this exhibition, the visitor to the gallery will have the opportunity to discover a true virtuoso who knew how to reconcile with harmony in his paintings between shapes, colors and dimensions, while maintaining a characteristic subtlety.
With Mr. Melehi, geometry is explored in an artistic and philosophical way, leaving the visitor the right to interpret it as he pleases.
"These paintings are inspired by the environment in which we live, heritage as well as popular and Islamic culture", explained the artist in a statement to M24, the continuous news channel of MAP, noting the fact that the name of the exhibition derives from the importance given to geometry, the common centerpiece of all his paintings.
According to the art critic Ahmed Fassi, Mr. Melehi's painting is an invitation to travel through the charms of color and the heritage legacy of which the visual artist explores the patterns and shapes in an ingenious way.
Drawing inspiration from forms and subjects borrowed from everyday life, or from local architecture, the artist presents works in which we find a “heritage character” with the zellige, the arcades and even a few fountains as the center of gravity of the canvas, a minaret, a dome, or even a Moroccan teapot, highlights the art critic in his presentation of the exhibition.
Nature is also very present in the paintings of Mr. Melehi, with “a marine insinuation half-coral half-seaweed, a desert palm tree and stars, without forgetting rather abstract geometric patterns, which the painter integrates into his paintings. fine paintings”, underlines Mr. Fassi.
“Mr. Melehi's works are reminiscent of an architectural plan or an ingenious puzzle game,” says Mr. Fassi, explaining that the simple forms that sometimes overlap and intersect or interpenetrate allow him to to express freely without overflowing into lyrical abstraction.
Born in Assilah, Mohamed Amine Melehi has participated in a multitude of individual and collective exhibitions in various galleries and institutions in Morocco and abroad. Read More…
