Polish Murder Suspect Asked Bangkok Taxi Driver's Help in Dismembering Ukrainian Woman, Using Google Translate
During an interview with Thai news outlet CH3, a taxi driver shared a chilling encounter involving a Polish man who had been apprehended for the alleged murder of his Ukrainian girlfriend, identified as "Alona." The suspect, named Lagoda Filippow Jan Jerzy, reportedly sought the taxi driver's assistance in disposing of the victim's body, employing Google Translate for communication purposes.
According to the taxi driver, he picked up Lagoda from the side of the road near a condominium in the Bang Kho Laem district. Utilizing Google Translate to bridge the language gap, the Polish tourist expressed his desire to visit a casino. The two drove around in search of a suitable establishment but failed to find one.
Subsequently, Lagoda allegedly resorted to the translation app to relay a peculiar request to the driver, asking, "Can you help me find a cleaner?" Perplexed by the inquiry, the driver inquired further, seeking clarification. To the driver's astonishment, Lagoda responded, "I'm looking for a cleaning machine for a corpse," adding, "I'm looking for liquid to clean a corpse." The suspect then brazenly inquired, "Do you have a tool to cut up a body?"
Baffled and sensing something was awry, the taxi driver pulled over and decided to consult with the suspect at a nearby restaurant. Realizing his limited English proficiency, the driver called upon his friend Ek, a Tuk Tuk driver who possessed superior language skills, to assist in the conversation with the Polish man.
During the interaction, Lagoda confessed, "I stabbed my wife." When pressed for an explanation, he disturbingly asked, "Do you have friends? Can you help me put the body parts in a bag?"
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the taxi driver dropped off Lagoda outside a hotel on Sathorn Road and promptly returned to the condominium to notify the security guard, leading to the discovery of Alona's lifeless body. In retrospect, the taxi driver recalled a foul odor emanating from the suspect's clothes during their encounter.
Ek, the driver's 47-year-old friend, shared his account with reporters. He stated that around 1 p.m., his friend approached him and revealed that the Polish man had shown him a message via Google Translate, which read, "Can you help find something to get rid of the smell? Because I killed my girlfriend, and I'm looking for someone to help me go up there and cut up her body," as reported by Kapook.
Unable to ascertain the veracity of Lagoda's claims, both drivers deemed it necessary to inform the condominium's security guard. Approximately 30 minutes later, the assailant returned to the condominium but swiftly departed in a taxi before long.
CCTV footage captured Alona and Lagoda walking together in the condominium's corridor at 11:52 p.m. on Friday, May 12. On Sunday at 12:15 p.m., Lagoda was seen walking down the same corridor, carrying a box believed to contain the saws discovered in the room. At 12:35 p.m. on that day, he was observed descending in an elevator with a large bag in hand.
Yesterday evening, Lagoda was apprehended by the police at the Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint as he attempted to flee into Cambodia, effectively ending his escape attempt.
