Sculptures of Minin and Pozharsky returned to the pedestal after restoration
Sculptures of Minin and Pozharsky returned to the pedestal after restoration. This is reported by the State Historical Museum (GIM). Earlier, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation announced its intention to open the renovated monument on November 4, the Day of National Unity.
“Exactly six months ago, we watched with excitement how the “bronze guards” of Red Square left the pedestal for the first time. Today, the Historical Museum is pleased to announce that the main stage of the most difficult work on the restoration of the sculptural group has been completed,” the Historical Museum ’s Telegram says.
The process, indeed, was not easy: experts removed from the sculptures more than 500 kilograms of corroded technological frame and the remains of the molding mass. In addition, the restorers eliminated numerous defects in the shell of the sculptures, carried out a set of works on the patina.
"A new frame was cast and installed to strengthen the plinth of the sculptural composition and the lining under the plinth. After the move, work will continue on the patination of the surface of the sculptures and the plinth, as well as restoration work on the granite pedestal," the museum also emphasized.
Earlier, the work on the monument to Minin and Pozharsky was appreciated by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova.
