Söndörgő’s Latest Album Tops World Music Charts Europe
Söndörgő, a renowned Hungarian band from Szentendre, has achieved remarkable success with their latest album Gyezz, recorded in collaboration with jazz saxophonist Chris Potter. The album has soared to the number one spot on the prestigious World Music Charts Europe for September. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the band, known for their unique blend of traditional Hungarian and Balkan music with contemporary influences.
Söndörgő was founded in 1995, and its members, Áron Eredics, Dávid Eredics, Salamon Eredics, Benjámin Eredics, and Ábel Dénes, have continued the legacy of their ancestors who were deeply rooted in the Hungarian dance-hall movement of the 1970s. Despite their strong ties to tradition, the band has managed to create a sound that resonates with modern audiences, particularly through their innovative use of instruments like the tamburica, along with wind, percussion, and accordion.
The collaboration with Chris Potter, one of the world’s leading jazz saxophonists, adds a new dimension to their music, blending the dense musical layers of the Balkans with jazz elements. The band leader, Áron Eredics, shared that the collaboration came about somewhat unexpectedly after a casual meeting at a party. Despite their differing musical styles, the partnership proved to be a success, leading to the recording of the album in under 24 hours.
Gyezz is Söndörgő's latest triumph, following a series of acclaimed albums that have previously made it to the top of the World Music Charts Europe. Their earlier albums, such as Tamburocket, also reached the number one position, and Gyezz continues this legacy of success. The album's official public presentation is set for November 15 in Budapest, where fans will get to experience this dynamic and culturally rich music live.
