A modest house in the middle of a tree and a tender children's choir that interpreted "Our land is beautiful" was the stage to receive the Colossus of the Earth entourage that traveled to the city of Juan León Mallorquín to visit the "Tree from the people". A category that emerged to reward the beauty of trees beyond their measurements.
"This category arose because there were trees whose dimensions did not qualify for the contest itself, but there were people who became so fond of certain trees, so we considered that we should include a category in which the public could vote, we have implemented this since 2017", explained Osvaldo Turlan, director of A Todo Pulmón.
The People's Tree, in this 2022 edition, is located in Juan León Mallorquín, in the department of Alto Paraná. It is a beautiful example of Ka'a Oveti postulated by the Barrientos family. He was the most voted, the favorite of the people and has a very particular history. Don Carlos, one of the sons, said that for years he has dedicated himself to conserving some 13 hectares of forest on the property of his parents, who with great sacrifice brought his children forward by working on the land.

“We are proud of this because we did not touch the forest, my parents produced agricultural products and that is what we lived on. Thanks to that we maintain these 13.5 hectares and we are very happy to have registered this Colossus”, he stated about the participation in this annual contest that originated in Paraguay, with the aim of raising awareness among the population about the importance of preserving native forests and respect for the trees.
