Azerbaijani President: We Played an Important Role in Building Bridges Between Global South and Global North
In a recent address at the international forum themed “Facing the New World Order” held at ADA University, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the significant role Azerbaijan has played in fostering connections between the Global South and the Global North. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and dialogue in addressing global challenges.
President Aliyev noted a key achievement during the recent COP discussions, stating, “During COP, another important achievement was an agreement on making the carbon market functional. This issue had not been agreed upon for at least 10 years. So, it was agreed in Azerbaijan due to our chairmanship and the trust placed in us.” This milestone reflects Azerbaijan's commitment to environmental sustainability and its leadership in international climate discussions.
He further elaborated on Azerbaijan's proactive approach to global issues, saying, “We played an important role in building bridges between the Global South and Global North. That was one of the important assignments we set for ourselves.” The President pointed to Azerbaijan's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its successful hosting of the COP conference as examples of the country’s dedication to international cooperation.
Aliyev also mentioned Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with African nations, stating, “Bilateral contacts with African countries demonstrate clearly our agenda. We see a very positive reaction to our efforts in many African countries.” He affirmed that the foreign policy aimed at building stronger relationships with African countries has been established and approved under his leadership.
As Azerbaijan continues its presidency until the end of the year, President Aliyev's remarks underscore the nation's commitment to playing a pivotal role in global diplomacy and fostering collaboration across diverse regions.
