Bolivia protects victims of gender violence and minors

The President of Bolivia, Luis Arce, today signed Law 179/2021 that establishes the protection of victims of femicide, infanticide and rape of minors and adolescents.
The rule seeks to curb the increase in crimes of this type registered by the authorities of the South American country, based on the increase in the severity of the penalties imposed on them.
The head of state highlighted the importance of the new law because “it establishes mechanisms that protect the rights of victims,” ​​he said after signing the document in an official act at the Casa Grande del Pueblo (headquarters of the executive).
Arce pointed out that the norm will come into force as a measure to contain acts of gender violence in a society where the patriarchal model prevails despite the social advances of recent decades, including the empowerment of women and the full recognition of the rights of children and adolescents as subjects and not objects.
“(…) we must face this problem decisively, because it is not a simple police issue and much less does it concern the commission of a crime, but rather it is a perverted display of abuse and the exercise of false power,” said the president of according to the ABI news agency.
